You have to hand it to fashion/homewares label Cabin & Cove. They do things a little differently. They make timeless-yet-on-trend clothing – affordable. With a base range of leather goods (read: skirts, shorts, sandals and clutches) featuring supple lamb leather or grainy cowhide leather skirts, it’s one luxe for less label that has fashion heads swooning.
Neon Moose chats to one half of Cabin & Cove and creative director Kristen about entrepreneurship, Cabin & Cove (natch!) and that ‘create something you wish existed’ moment.
“I used to have leather apparel and footwear crafted to my own style out of curiosity when I struggled to find what I wanted to wear" Kristen tells us.
"Also, I wasn’t willing to pay an excessive sum of money when I knew I could have it made myself with quality leather materials,” she adds.
After briefings with business partner Daniel, Kristen decided to extend her fashion design skills to the masses; a natural progression from her years of working in the fashion and surf industry.
But it was a move that naturally involved a lot of sacrifices.
“I cut back a LOT on my social life for brand planning and website tasks that I wanted to prioritise in order to be successful. I also juggle a part time job at the same time as Cabin & Cove to support my business which was a big change to my lifestyle.”
However like any successful label (coupled with drive and determination), things just fell into place. Cabin & Cove fast became a destination for home and wardrobe staples featuring leather and suede essentials with an element as Kristen describes as ‘casual coastal cool’.
“It encompasses a wearable vibe found by any beautiful coastline. As a brand we are drawn to the juxtaposition of classic, rich leather products against natural outdoor elements of textured brick and greenery (especially cacti!),”
